i love a parade

do you realize what happens this week?
i didn't until yesterday.
while getting ready to write this,
(my all-important inaugural blog post!)
i remembered that this week is a magical one.

this realization
(brought about by these lovely photos)
threw my writing and photo plans into a tail spin.
how could i let this week,

*the very last week of winter*

sneak past without acknowledgement..
without a single word atleast?

or the very best, a bit of fanfare
a party, or better yet, a celebration?

it is the beginning of spring afterall!

renewal of life.
the end of hibernation.
it is the end of white and brown,
and
the beginning of color in the northern hemisphere once again.

the beginning of spring has special meaning for me.
it is momentus.
especially now that i live in new york.

living in the northeast,
winter affects you...in profound ways.

especially if you are a texas girl who grew up travelling through mexico
as a child...

a girl who moved to los angeles after college and was surrounded by color
360 days (and nights) of the year...for 10 years.

yes,
to someone like that, winter does seem to last and last.
but once it ends,
it's pure magic.
truly worth the wait. (right?)

brown will be giving way to green.
pink will be popping up its sweet face here and there.
yellows will become lighter and brighter.

and the daylight will grow longer and longer
so we can enjoy it all that much more.

oh yes,
this week is full of all sorts of happy beginnings
worth celebrating.
so i say
let the parade of color begin.

***thanks to the amazing work of tim walker,
whose photographs i featured today.
you can also find more of his magical work here.
enjoy!
